Soul Medicine

Could our failing medical system be nudging us towards Spirit as our source of true health?  Have we been placing too much of our faith in the material while ignoring and forgetting our spiritual inheritance?

Norman Shealy and Dawson Church explore numerous alternative healing methods in their book "Soul Medicine".  They suggest that instead of resorting to God/Spirit in desperation, after everything else has failed us, that turning first and foremost to the spiritual realm, is where our most effectual help lies.  Recognizing that the Kingdom of Heaven is within us is the basis for health which is more than a superficial, perhaps temporary means of just alleviating symptoms.  Spiritual healing gets to the root cause of our distresses.

The authors put it this way...... "While it is unlikely that we will ever be able to bypass physical means like drugs and surgery for the healing of every disease in every person, these new insights show clearly that soul medicine is the very first intervention point we should look to for physical or emotional healing.  It's free.  It's not under control of an HMO, doctor, hospital or spouse. It usually feels good to great.  It places awesome power over our own healing within us.  It returns the responsibility for our well being to our own doorsteps rather than displacing that responsibility onto some outside agent of healing.  And research is screaming at us with the urgent message that consciousness can harness the powerful healing forces of a quantum universe, forces far more potent than pills in a bottle."

Shealy and Church bring out the idea that we are all expressions of the One Infinite God.  God is showing forth God's presence through us, when we allow it.  Entertaining doubts and fears as to our purpose or the meaning of life tends to hold us back from being joyful and enjoying vibrant health.  The authors emphasize that when we cultivate attributes or qualities such as forgiveness, tolerance, serenity, faith, hope, love, consistency, joy, gratitude, etc, we will greatly benefit.  Our intentions to share joy, love and healing with others, will not only bring us opportunities to do so but will bring us spiritual and many times material or physical rewards....things we never even dreamed possible.

The book goes into detail concerning the attributes of successful healers.  One common requirement appears to be a humble attitude, "knowing" and giving credit to the original source of the healing energy....God or Spirit.  If we realize that our source of all good stems from God, we will never be in short supply of anything needful, including the gift of healing.  If we look at healing in terms of transferring our own healing energy to a patient, we will quickly run out of steam and become ineffective.

Soul Medicine summarizes many alternative therapies such as magnetic therapy, prayer, acupuncture and different forms of electromedicine.  Other helpful modalities include soothing joyous activities...like listening to uplifting music, surrounding ourselves with colors which touch our souls.....biofeedback and guided imagery are also helpful.

Magnesium is an essential mineral which is responsible for many important functions in our body. Magnesium is a mineral which much of the population is deficient in.

There is a section in the book which aids readers in determining what types of practitioners or healers are best suited for them and what to expect from these healers.  How can we integrate these natural and spiritual healing methods into the mainstream?  Chapter 17, at the end of the book, discusses this.  As the authors point out, society will save billions of dollars by implementing more holistic and spiritual methods of healing....however.....it seems to me that resistance, so far, towards this goal of integrative or soul medicine is due to what is perceived as a threat to the medical industrial complex.  Under the current paradigm, if we save money, they will lose money.  Perhaps we can find a solution where everyone (including the mainstream businesses) will feel safe and cared for. Much of our criminal activity is due to the fear of not having enough. People feel that in order to survive they need to commit crimes, take from others and hoard.  When we keep close the thought in our hearts that Spirit's supply is infinite......that there is enough for all....without having to "take away" from others.... everyone will be blessed.

I am grateful to Norman Shealy and Dawson Church for creating this very helpful book, which anyone can see, is a result of their love for humanity.

I highly recommend "Soul Medicine" for anyone, but especially for those who are realizing that our current mainstream medical system is failing us.  Socialized or Universal health care is not our only solution to the mess we are in.  "Soul Medicine" will help us to take back responsibility for our own health care.  Why push for more government control when all along Spirit provides the ultimate solution ....and is available to all.
