Judy Reiser’s book is a sequel collection of quirks and idiosyncrasies compiled from interviews with over two thousand people form various ages, backgrounds and locations. Reiser has broken them into categories: Loo-ney Tales, Funny Money, Assorted Nuts, Night Shtick, Clothes Encounters of the Strange Kind, The Howard Hughes Syndrome, and Now I’ve Heard Everything!
With some of the entries, you will find yourself thinking, “and I thought I was the only one who did that” to being reassured that there’s always someone just a little bit more crazy than you are. I will admit that I was a bit disappointed in the book overall due to a preconceived notion that the entries would be a little more quirky than most of them are. To me, a good portion of the quirks are “normal” from them either being part of our normal behavior pattern or having seen others do it so much that it doesn’t register that it’s quirky anymore.
I do like how the book is laid out by common theme with some of the quirkier entries followed up with clarifying questions that seem to pop in our heads when we hear the particular quirk. I would classify this in the genera of bathroom book due to the combination of the quirkiness of the subject and the ease of being able to pick and choose where to start reading in it.
Out of all the entries, I think I have to say that my favorite one is located in the Loo-ney Tales section from a 30-year-old male:
One of life’s greatest simple pleasures is to have a cold beer in a hot shower.
[Now that I have brought that to the attention of our male readers, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that the number to agree with that statement increased tenfold.]
All in all this is a quirky little book that’s an easy and quick read that’s great for passing around and passing time when you have a short wait on your hand.
