The Gay Face of God by Archbishop Bruce J. Simpson

The following review was contributed by: TAMY BRADY

The Gay Face of God is the autobiography of Archbishop Bruce J. Simpson. The story starts with the Simpson's birth, the result of a rape, and his troubled childhood. The book then proceeds through the author's search for his calling.

This journey takes the author to the air force where he becomes the first military man to be discharged for being gay. Simpson then becomes an award winning police officer and eventually joins the seminary to train to become a Roman Catholic priest.

Throughout all of these challenges, Simpson is a man who also happens to be gay. Nonetheless, the fact that he is gay, continues to put unfair roadblocks in the author's life.

The Face of God is the story of one man. However, the author's story attempts to speak for and to all people who struggle because of their sexual orientation. Furthermore, the author wishes to challenge the anti-gay sentiments, practices, and legislation of the military, policing, and religious worlds.

McClelland -- he’s simply a man who has experienced (and excelled in) so many areas of life that one or two words doesn’t do him justice. What did become apparent in a recent interview, however, is that Mr. McClelland is a man of passion; whether it’s politics, world history, pop culture, or any number of other subjects, McClelland knows his...

article The Trials Of Lenny Bruce: The Fall And Rise Of An American Icon by Ronald K.L. Collins: David M. Skover
Comedian Lenny Bruce has always been something of an enigma. Some compared him to the famous satirist Jonathan Swift, who was a moralist and who endeavoured to uncover the hypocrisy of various situations arising out of society. His defence attorneys even pointed out “he was not a mad man writing dirty words on the walls of a public toilet. He was an original social critic with an unconventional vocabulary.” Others, however, including some well known journalists, perceived him as a “sick...

Wrong.            It is not until page 210 before you get to what you were made to...

The following review was contributed by: NORM GOLDMAN EDITOR OF BOOKPLEASURES Have you ever wondered how some athletes seem to have a personality transformation the minute they put on their uniforms? It is as if mentally, spiritually and emotionally their psyche has been modified to such an extent that they seem to have a marked edge over their opponents.
