Supply Chain Cost Management is a 230 page, hardbound book. This book contains 10 chapters and retails for $39.95 (US).It includes a foreward (Theresa Metty), preface (Dave Nelson), acknowledgments section, and an index.
The AIM (agree-identify-measure) and DRIVE (define-reduce-implement-verify-eternally improve) process of cost management, introduced in Chapter 2, is likely to be of greatest interest to those in manufacturing, but may also be of significant interest to those in any industry with rising costs (e.g., healthcare), where business process outsourcing (BPO), for example, provides opportunities and assistance with cost reduction.Chapters 3 through 10 represent nothing more than focused components of the AIM & DRIVE® process, where Chapter 3 focuses on the A – “agreeing” the need to manage costs, and Chapters 4 through 10 proceed through the remaining letters in the AIM & DRIVE® acronym components.
I would characterize this book as a primer on the topic of Supply Chain Cost Management, and recommend it to those looking for an introduction to the topic.A first reading could easily be completed in an afternoon, while those likely to find the topic of sufficient interest to extend the depth of their understanding of supply chain management and related topics are likely to prefer to refer to it, from time to time, and even retain this book as a reference source until time allows for the selection and digestion of a more advanced book on this and related topics.I found the topic to be of interest, the coverage to be more than adequate, and the organization and writing style to be extremely palatable and complete with appropriate supporting and supplemental figures and exhibits.I recommend this book for those interested in business operations and cost management, regardless of their level of education.
