Chinese poet and philosopher, Ronnie Ka Ching Lee, is working to discover the truth and morality in life through knowelage, understanding and reason.
Lee has studied in England and now lives in Hong Kong. His previous books include The Book of Life.
In the Meaning of Life Ronnie Lee has tried in a series of poems to uncover the understanding of social problems using morality and logic.
It is a huge book but the poems are set out in such a way as to make reading them easy and a pleasure. But you have either to be a student of philosophy or at least have some sort of interest in the meaning of life and how everything is connected together.
The first chapter encourages in poetic language how to value ourselves, our skills and to share this. Also to know when to be humble if others do not share our value.
I thought it was common sense that if we organize ourselves it therefore makes our lives easier and therefore safer but he does make the point that sometimes things will be easy and sometimes hard - we all surely know that. Ronnie tells us we have to prove we are worthy then justice will always be done.
Happiness is in effect of allowance - doing what you want gives you happiness.
If you accept evil with its freedom you face the consequences later. Happiness he tells us can create jealousy and envy. Respect is important too.
Perversion is the obsession of pleasure - he talks about drug abuse and gossip. Ronnie explains in his poem that social skills help to keep families together and also helps in relationships in the work place.
He tells us “we are all connected through the existential law - that nothingness is never connected together”. Think about it.
He gives us his thoughts on existentialism, the Bible and the Will through his poetry.
It takes the reader on a long, long journey through reasoning and questions and answers dealing with philosophy which will help you to have a better understanding of life and its meaning. It certainly makes you think and wonder and you will look at everything differently after reading some of these poems. It does take some reading though, you have to have some sort of interest in the meaning of life but I should think that to a student of philosophy this book will be his Bible.
Ronnie Lee is a very clever man and I have to admire him, every word has a meaning to the next throughout every page. It is a book you could dip into if you had a quiet moment and perhaps reflect on life itself.
As I read more and more of his deep thoughts, I realised they need to be studied a lot more than I can in doing my review. Some of his poems are so very thought provoking.
The quest for knowledge - why we are alive - how we are alive and what we can do about it to make life better, is all here in this wonderful book by Ronnie Lee. An exceptional man.

In a funny kind of way I understood that logic “puts things in their right places” but as I see it these things are not always logical and things don’t always add up and make sense. Then as I read on, it became clear that it is just what Ronnie is...
