Can you please tell us about yourself?
P.K. Paranya
I’ve used the name Pinkie Paranya since childhood, but in my mysteries and suspense I use P.K. Paranya. I was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ and traveled all over the States, Alaska and Mexico with my photographer husband. I’ve always enjoyed putting words on paper and have written a book of poetry as well as about 13 novels. I live near Yuma, AZ now and garden, look after my menagerie of cats and a dog, enjoy time with my friends, and write.
Manuela
What inspired you to write ‘Herr Schnoodle and McBee’?
P.K. Paranya
I always wanted to write a wry, humorous Damon Runyon sort of book with New York characters. I wanted to write especially about 2 characters, a man and a dog, who have to learn to trust again.
Manuela
Where did you do your research for this book?
P.K. Paranya
My husband was born and raised in the NY city area. I picked up from him how it was a melting pot of all cultures and races with people speaking in rich dialects of Yiddish, Polish, Italian and Russian to name a few.
Manuela
Why did you choose this particular title?
P.K. Paranya
I always liked the sound of McBee, it has a ring to it. And I had to include the dog’s name, since they were partners.
Manuela
Can you tell us how you came about creating the book characters?
P.K. Paranya
I’ve known cranky people like McBee that if you can scratch past the hard covering, you find a gem buried in there somewhere. The other characters, Apple Sally, Mr. Bertoldi, Darcy, McBee’s snitches for example, were all people I would have enjoyed meeting.
Manuela
Did you plan the entire plot in advance, or did you create the story as you advanced in your writing?
P.K. Paranya
I usually envision the location of my stories and from there the characters evolve and the plot usually follows.
Manuela
I’ve looked at your SITE and was pleased to see that you wrote many other novels. Can you please tell us briefly about your previous work?
P.K. Paranya
My first book, a romantic suspense, Secrets of Sebastian Beaumont, was bought by Silhouette/Harlequin. Then I found publishers for Raven Woman and Tiana, Gift of the Moon, 2 of a trilogy of historicals starting in AD 600 to the present. The 3rd isn’t sold yet. Treasure of the Amazon is a romantic adventure that was published in March 06 and then of course, Herr Schnoodle & McBee which debuts 9/20/06. Triskelion is publishing a romance in March 07.
Manuela
You also obtained awards for your books. Can you please list them here?
P.K. Paranya
Raven Woman won Silver in ForeWord’s Book of the Year Awards with over 900 entries. Both Raven Woman and Tiana are in museums and Universities in Alaska.
Manuela
What is your next project? Do you have one in mind?
P.K. Paranya
I’m never without a project. It keeps me going. I am finishing a sexy, light-hearted romance. I have two in a series of paranormal, psychological suspense ready to go, and I’m doing research on the Maya culture to see where that takes me.
Manuela
