This poetry collection is a work of over three decades by former rock musician, Daniel Farley. The poetry is written in a free verse format exploring everything from love to loss and all that fits in-between. The poems take on a flow that you will find in song lyrics and each have a heavy rock kind of theme.

Stars Up Above was a poem that stood out to me. It reflected so much of how I tend to feel sometimes:

“Let me dream of worlds so far away,

Forever to fly in shadows of gray”

I wonder if other readers will find this fitting to how they feel? It moved me and stirred up emotion.

A Face in the Mirror- another poem that spoke in the language of my soul. It talks of how a face in the mirror has reminders of days that have past. Then as you move through the poem you realize this face in the mirror is someone the author does not know…or is it?  Wonderful!

Gentle Spring is another verse to love. Farley talks of the freshness of spring and how it is cloaked in placid hues of ease. How its velvet dew falls upon the trees and how the little sparrows sing. This for me sums up what spring is like - Farley has done an excellent poem here for all to love.

Has this man dabbled in alcohol and drugs perhaps, back in his youthful years? No Need for Alarm indicates that this is the message he is trying to get across. Maybe he had a lover who herself had a need for those illegal highs?

“She says, there’s no need for alarm:

as she sticks; the needle in her arm!

Lady there’s nothing for you ahead

The only way out is when you are dead”

The end line does make you think: maybe this woman has had an overdose for she is realizing the dead body is not a dream inside her head. Very disturbing indeed but yet again an excellent poem.

I think there is a large fan base out there for this kind of poetry - particularly if you like good old-fashioned rock and roll with drugs and plenty of alcohol. I really do recommend this to the young generation who will probably understand the author’s message better then older readers.

All poems are sectioned into chapters and if you look at the “Table in Time” pages at the back, they are all dated too. I really liked this myself and thought it just brought the whole thing together wonderfully.

A fantastic poetry book with a spiritual undertone.
