Today, Norm Goldman, Publisher & Editor of Bookpleasures.com is honored to have as our guest, Annette Hoggs-Jackson author of Poems from the Heart. Annette believes she receives her writing inspiration from God and in 2007 she received the Baltimore Newsome Award.

Good day Annette and thanks for participating in our interview.
Norm:
Please tell our readers a little bit about your personal and professional background.
Annette:
I live in Daytona Beach Florida and I am a graduate of San Jose State University in California where I earned a degree in Psychology. I have been employed in the mental health field for over 30 years, working with individual who are depressed, schizophrenic, divorced, and addicted to drugs and alcohol, homeless, and battered women. I am presently working with pregnant women and their families.
Norm:
Will you share with us a little bit about your poetry book, Poems from the Heart? Why did you feel compelled to write this book and why do you write poetry?
Annette:
As I love writing, which I consider to be one of my gifts from God, coupled with my experiences counseling people, I felt compelled to write this book of poetry. Moreover, I felt that God requested that I share my experiences and outlook on life with others that are less fortunate and who are struggling with their lives.
Norm:
Whom do you believe will benefit from your book and why?
Annette:
It is my strong belief that everyone will benefit from reading the book, as no one can truthfully say that they don’t have any issues no matter what their circumstances are in life. I have received some very gratifying feedback from young and older readers who have told me that they can’t put the book down because it has helped them in looking at life differently. In fact, some purchase copies either for a family member or friend. I have included some very powerful “stuff” which God has given me to write about in the book.
Norm:
What did you enjoy most about writing Poems from the Heart?
Annette:
The foremost benefit I received from writing this book is that it permitted me to look at life in a more positive perspective when I focus on my daily routines and to have more faith and trust in God, no matter what the situation is which often is beyond our control.
Norm:
How do you get the inspiration to write your poems? Where and when do you write your poems?
Annette:
My inspiration to write emanates from God. He ministers to me and the words just flow out. I just write what he gives me to write. I pray and wait on God to give me his knowledge while I'm sitting in a quiet place at home. My husband is my biggest fan and cheerleader who backs me 100% also he promotes my book and handles everything media, interviews and many other things.
Norm:
What makes your poems different from others?
Annette:
My poetry offers encouragement and motivation to individuals in need. It also ministers to people and offers hope in any circumstances. It helps by giving encouragement and an understanding of God's divine plan.
Norm:
What is the favorite poem you have written and why?
Annette:
One of my favorite poems is The Homeless One. People often “turn their noses up” at these poor souls, and even when they wish to help them, they treat them as if they are insignificant nobodies. In fact, many of these homeless were once doctors, lawyers and people just like you or me. Without warning, the same misfortune can happen overnight to anyone of us. On the other hand, I believe they could be “God’s angels” and thus you have to be careful as to how you treat the homeless.
Norm:
What are the Newsome Awards?
Annette:
Pastor Fred Newsome is the founder of the Newsome awards that are given to individuals in a variety of categories in order to encourage them to further their missions in the ministry.
Norm:
What is next for Annette Hoggs-Jackson and is there anything else you wish to add that we have not covered?
Annette:
Presently, I am working on a second book and in 2008 I hope to launch a third one. I wish to thank all of my previous purchasers and I truly appreciate their support. May God bless you as you read my books.
Thanks once again and good luck with Poems from the Heart.
