The Wasp That Wanted To Be A Bee and Other Silly Poems

Author:  Nora Katsourakis Anthony

ISBN: 1-4327-0517-2

The Wasp That Wanted To Be A Bee and Other Silly Poems are works of poetic art by

proclaimed student of the human condition, Nora Anthony.

Skilfully crafted with a rich language  Nora has written this book of poetry with an originality that shines throughout every page. She has also called it a book of silly poems but I’m afraid I didn’t see them as silly.   I’m sure anyone reading this book of verses will find many of her poems very clever with their deep meaning and perhaps may discover a favourite that personally will means something to them. You do have to use your imagination but these poems really do set your mind into overdrive.

Some of my favourites include The Frog where Anthony manags to capture his likeness. He changes his persona quite quickly as he catches and devours a dragon fly before dying after his short life that seems to parallel human behaviour in their own short span of time. Anthony is also efftive in portraying the environment where this creature sits happily which is a very realistic observation, making this short and meaningful poem very likeable for all ages.

Another verse in this wonderful collection is Icicles Play. Again its is a very witty poem about moments in our life and how we look at things with a different eye as time passes and things become clearer. Also included in the compilation is a fable of a lonely wasp and a colony of bees.

Nora conjures up these visions in our minds with words that are full of meaning and she has a vivid imagination as well as her own unique way of knitting things together.

I wish I could have better understood more of these poems, however unfortunately, I found most of them too complex and as a result I could not appreciate their full meaning. Nonetheless, I did find them thought provoking and her amazing imagery and beauty had a profound effect on my senses.

A very spiritual read !
