Have you ever seen a bumper sticker and wondered who is the clever person that sits around and thinks up those quips? Have you ever needed a quote and searched and searched only to find nothing that really fit the bill? Have you ever wished you could get your hands on a book that was filled with nothing but witty, poignant one-liners?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, then James C. Sandefer’s book, RAMBLING THOUGHTS, is the book for you.
Filled with witticisms, this 121-page book will make you think, make you laugh, and make you wonder. Sandefer’s quotes often remind the reader of bumper sticker sayings, such as:
“If things get any faster and easier, I won’t understand how to accomplish anything.” (p. 35)
Still other times, the axioms make the reader think:
“Perception is reality but harder to accept and more difficult to prove.” (p. 35)
“If being honest were as easy as telling the truth, there would be no challenge in politics.” (p. 23)
And occasionally his quotes will make the reader laugh out loud:
“It’s interesting how we can’t live in the past because we revisit it often enough to be residents.” (p. 5)
While the book certainly can be digested in little over an hour, RAMBLING THOUGHTS is not a book meant to be read in one sitting, but rather visited often and kept on the shelf for use when the perfect quote is desired or needed.
The book’s only flaw is that occasionally Sandefer’s one-liners resemble one another or appear to be loosely based on “old sayings” that everyone knows:
“If you have to break a rule, getting forgiveness is usually easier than getting permission.” (p. 9)
However, if not read straight through, the linearity of many of the quotes will likely not be noticed.
If you’re into clever epigrams, such as:
“My entire life I’ve marched to a different drummer who I now believe can’t read music, is tone deaf, and has poor rhythm.” (p. 108) the likes of which are crying out to be printed on t-shirts, coffee mugs, and bumper stickers, RAMBLING THOUGHTS will be a great buy for you.
