Andrea Kane’s groundbreaking book, Run for Your Life, became a New York Times bestseller which she followed with other works. Kane currently lives in New Jersey with her family where she is learning to become her very own FBI special agent. Between target practises she is researching and writing the sequel to Twisted.
Former FBI Special Agent Sloane Burbank almost died following a fatal injury she sustained while on duty. Despite loving her job, life stuck behind a desk just isn’t what she wants. Sloane agrees to go back to work but only if she can be a private consultant.
Now she uses her special skills to train law enforcement - suddenly though one of her closest friends disappears and she throws herself into the case. It means, however, working with her former lover - Derek Parker, who remains the only FBI agent in charge.
Details later emerge that there has been a string of murders in Chinatown - all connected with gang welfare. Sloane must try and also solve this case as well as hunting for her friend.
Things get even more complicated and somewhat gruesome when more women disappear and then turn up brutally murdered. Derek and Sloane later come to a terrible conclusion - these crimes could be linked with the same crazed killer. It seems this madman will stop at nothing and is very unpredictable, striking at will.
What will eventually be the outcome when Sloane herself becomes a target in the killer’s latest hobby?
I found this book enjoyable but not the best I have read. The plotline is, however, engrossing in places once you get past the long dialogue Sadly though, I would have liked to see more action perhaps and I can’t say the sexual scenes appealed to my taste.
I would have preferred this book without the sexual content, as it did tend to make it trashy.
However don’t let this put you off - the rest of the novel is readable and I did like the fact that this author uses female authority with a woman as the main character.
This is a novel that has more twists and turns then a road. A delight to read for many fans of thrillers though I myself have read better. It is still pleasing and the ending not as predictable as thought. Read this if you have nothing to do.
