It seems like almost every time you turn on the television or the radio or even pick up a paper or magazine you see ads and articles about how the American public is obese. To loose the weight try this diet, or this pill, or this regimen of exercise and it’s sure to work. For some people, that just doesn’t work and their only recourse is medical weight reduction known as gastric bypass. What they don’t seem to mention when you hear about the gastric bypass surgery is the results of all that weight and then loosing it can have on the human skin – loss of elasticity. So all that work to make yourself feel and look better, you’re still hit with a roadblock. That’s what Dr. Hurwitz’s book is about, how to go about getting rid of the excess and being able too fully enjoy the new you.

Total Body Lift is written in laymen’s terms and whatever medical jargon he does uses, there’s a nice glossary in the back to explain them to you. Dr. Hurwitz starts off the book by giving us his background experience as a plastic surgeon (vita included) and how he came to be trained in the total body lift. There’s also a chapter that to me gave just enough explanation without being totally overwhelming in regards to the various types of gastric bypass surgeries. You are given the risks of each in no uncertain terms as well as all the requirements that you must meet before a doctor will even consider that as a weight loss option for you. That’s all before he even gets into the body lift explanations. There are also chapters that explain the differences between the upper and lower aspects of the lift, making certain to make note of where scar lines end up. Dr. Hurwitz also spends a chapter discussing how this particular form of surgery is performed on men who have also had a dramatic loss of weight as well. The last forty or so pages of the book concentrate on how to prepare for the surgery, the risks involved, you post op and recovery expectations as well as a gage as to how much each part of the surgery would cost..

For anyone who has even toyed with the idea to have something on his or her body lifted and tucked, I would recommend them picking up this book. Even though it is geared towards post gastric bypass patients, I found Dr. Hurwitz’s explanations of just what exactly is involved in cosmetic surgery. He walks you through the surgery with illustrations to help you really understand what he’s talking about with no sugar coating involved. Dr. Hurwitz makes sure to repeat throughout the book that this is an expensive surgery, that it will hurt and there are risks involved, emotionally as well as physically. This option does exist and is something to consider helping those clinically obese to truly look and feel good about them selves again.
