Did you know that over five million dogs and cats are killed every year simply because there are not enough homes for them? This is a shocking statistic. It begs the question: Does nobody care for these poor defenceless, loving animals?

Gratefully I learnt there are people who do care all thanks to Bonnie Silva who cherishes any time she can get in the company of animals.

She writes this book after her amazing, emotional and rewarding journey where she learns death and freedom really can be just a ride away.

As I began this very inspiring book, I was outraged to learn the life most animals live when they reach the pounds. It really does spell the end of their life, being stuck behind bars and having to quite often sleep on top of hard, concrete floors that offer no comfort.

Then within sometimes only a matter of weeks, their days are up if no loving family comes forward to adopt or home this animal.

So many of them end up euthanized (a lethal injection) compared to the lucky ones who are adopted. Many of these creatures do not leave the shelter and therefore do not know what it is like to feel grass beneath their feet and the love and affection of a human companion.

It further disgusted me to learn that all this in the eyes of scientists means nothing. They claim animals feel no emotion like humans do. How can they spout this utter rubbish is a question I’d like to put before them. If animals could talk, they would certainly put an end to the way scientists feel…if scientists feel any emotion at all!

They simply wish to cart animals off to their labs for tests.

Every time I hear about the abuse they put these wonderful beings through I have to grit my teeth. To say one feels outraged at the cruelty is an understatement. It is clear I am not just the only individual to feel this way. Meet the superb volunteers of a team of people who vow to put an end to the cruel methods used in the pounds. They willingly drive each leg, which refers to the stretch of highway a volunteer drives an animal to meet his/her adopted or sometimes “forever home”, and make sure that at least some of these animals have a happy life full of love.

Teddy and husband Frank are among these warriors. They drive a truck with rescued animals away from the horrible reality of the pounds and toward a happy existence.

Teddy sweetly describes her first adoptee, Hershey, as “an angel wrapped in fur”. They fall in love with so many of their adopted animals and to just have a few hours to cuddle them while on the road, is a gift in itself.

Learn as you read on that there are many of these kind individuals willing to give up their time and save a life.

Even if you can’t drive these furry souls for miles in order to spare them the lethal needle that puts an end to their life, then you can do so much else. By buying this book you are giving a portion of your money toward animal shelters and rescue groups like many of the ones that feature inside. These are proper shelters - “no-kill” shelters to be exact so you can be sure that no animals will be killed.

Groups such as trucknpaws or puppymillresuce are always needing donations or people who are willing to become volunteer pilots and be the voice for animals.

Just take a moment and give at least some of your time to helping others. After all, isn’t it what animals would do for us?

A fabulous book that I can’t praise enough. I fell in love with every animal inside and can assure you that you will too.

Thank you Bonnie for bringing this subject to our attention and helping more people to become aware of what really goes on in these “shelters”.

article Death of a Writer
Author: Michael Collins ISBN-13: 978-I-5969I-229-8 There’s no secret in the world of literature that there’s an antagonism between readers who favor genre literature and those who prefer literary fiction. The literary sophisticates, quite fairly, scoff at the intellectual emptiness of a great deal of genre fiction while the genre lot curses the literary camp for being the pretensions pricks we tend to be. It’s rare to find something that works for both groups. Although it may be too literary...

article DEATH’S WITNESS
Author: Paul Batista ISBN: 1-978-1-4022-0665-8Death’s Witness by Paul Batista is a strong addition to the popular legal thriller genre, more than capable of holding its own in the field. Batista writes courtroom drama the same way Michael Crichton used to write science: potentially dense subjects are distilled for the reader, the action borders on fantastic, and plot twists abound. The result is a very fun, very engaging, very quick, read. The book opens with a murder: successful trail lawyer...
