This is book one of six in the Mama Peavy series and is light humor about marriage.

Mama Peavy claims she is now called “Pastor Mama Peavy,” since establishing a “church for single women only,” and it’s called “The Tabernacle of Sorrow.” The mission of the new church is to get as many women married off as possible and she sells “Triple M” spray – it will have money falling out of the trees, cures your fever blisters, and gets you a man (comes with a box of band-aids).  And it looks like the women will take them any way they come – “blind, crippled, or crazy.”

The blind man is an easy pick – you can take his money, do whatever you want in the house (as long as you’re real quiet), and you can scare him into thinking you will end it all when he acts like a mess. On the nights he’s feeling frisky – Mama Peavy suggests a blow-up doll and when he asks why you aren’t moving, tell him you’re tired.

The crippled has limitations – you can’t fool him with a blow-up doll or steal his money right in front of him. However, you can call him names and run. Mama Peavy suggests using his wheelchair for your charity – sit on a street corner with a cardboard sign to beg for donations. She suggests you have to “work with what you got.”

The crazy guy is “a horse of a different color.” One minute “he’s Donald Duck and the next minute he is Donald Trump.” You never know what he (or the other voices in his head) is thinking. You can’t trick him like the blind man or call him names – but you can count on helping him spend his monthly check. As long as he’s certifiable, he gets a check!

Now, for an ugly man, Mama Peavy says that there are few in number of “pretty” men, but an “ocean full” of ugly ones. And, “they all look like spider monkeys.” She claims that you “can’t walk outside your front door without running into an ugly man.”

According to Mama Peavy, there are five reasons that it’s okay to marry an ugly man – faithfulness; paycheck; you can hand him a mirror when he starts acting up; you’ll outshine him; and it’s charitable. In five humorous chapters, Mama Peavy outlines why she believes these five reasons.

This book was a quick read and light entertainment.

The following review was contibuted by: CAROLYN HOWARD-JOHNSON I have a theory about children and money that is not rooted in science. I believe that babies pop out with ingrained personality traits that translate into the way they handle money from the time they are little to adulthood. This may not sound like the beginning of a promising recommendation for a book like Lori Mackey’s Money Mama and The Three Little Pigs which gives children a sound philosophy for how to handle money. But...

The following review was contributed by: S.SWAMY Why Did I Marry You Anyway? by Barbara Bartlein is an excellent Manual to create a happy and stable marriage. Does the book cover the topic well? Is it readable? Does it make sense? Are the examples close to your heart? Are the solutions suggested practical? I asked myself these...
