Cecile Chicault, Mazan, and Philip Petit’s adaptation of the Grimm’s fairy tales, Hansel And Gretel, Learning to How to Shudder, The Devil And The Three Golden Hairs, and The Valiant Little Tailor is a remarkable compilation of some of histories finest classics. The illustrations are incredibly colorful and pleasing to the eyes. The book itself is inviting from the intriguing front cover to the attractively designed back cover. The stories are well-written and hold your interest from beginning to end.

Most of us remember Hansel and Gretel from our childhood and this colorful adaptation brings back fond memories as the two youngsters are taken into the woods to be left behind by their unloving mother. Their father, although he dearly loves his two children knows that he cannot keep them alive if they stay in a home where there is so little food. Their hard-hearted mother plots to abandon them in the woods to fend for themselves. You will enjoy Classics Illustrated’s version of this timely tale and find out how the children turn the tables on their conniving mother.

Learning How to Shudder is another delightful romp through a ‘once upon a time and long, long ago’ type tale of a young man who can’t seem to be frightened by anything and goes to great lengths to learn how to shiver and ‘shudder’. The young man travels great distances and with the help of many strange and interesting characters goes to great lengths to unveil the art of shuddering. He wins the hand and heart of a beautiful young princess who finally teaches him how to shudder.

The Devil and the Three Golden Hairs is another tale of mind-over-matter where a young man outwits an array of scheming individuals to win the hand of a beautiful princess, half a kingdom, and great wealth. He is sent on an incredible journey to steal three golden hairs from the head of the devil if he is to be allowed to keep the princess as his bride. His charm and wit will certainly win your heart.

Last, but certainly not least, is the tale of The Valiant Little Tailor. Another young man who valiantly kills ‘seven’ with one blow—flies that is—wins the respect of the entire country by his valor and charm. His intelligence alone helps him to defeat some remarkable characters with an ease that borders on the amazing.

You will enjoy this and beg for more. Don’t hesitate to browse the shelves of Classics Illustrated and delve again into such historical remakes as ‘Black Beauty’, ‘Frankenstein’, ‘Swiss Family Robinson’ and too many more to mention.
