I liked it. I shouldn’t have, but I did. I shouldn’t have liked it because I’m white, a man, and old. The author is a black woman, probably young, who speaks in a lingo (black street talk) that I don’t completely understand. But I sure understood the explicit sex talk and graphic sex scenes.
The three women friends in this book are constantly, without inhibition, talking sex and doing it with gusto and much pleasure. They talk about the size of men and their preference for large penises. They talk about getting eaten out, giving head and sucking on assholes, as well as other Karma Sutra antics that might even make the old Marquis squirm.
The basic story is about Klarke and her two friends and their quest for happiness. Klarke has just been divorced, caused by her cheating husband. She had a happy married life and hadn’t a clue that her husband was fooling around. She was devastated, but her girlfriends bring her back to life.
She meets Reo, a successful novel writer. They marry but the relationship sours because it is based on a lie. Klarke prevails as a strong black female in the end. The friends survived their bad relationships, always searching for the one right man. The surprise ending, however, is a bad one.
It’s a good venture into the lives of young middle class black women. There is a lot of hip-hop talk and many black lingo colloquialisms. And there is a lot of explicit sex and pornographic poetry.
The story is in present time (2002) and there are great funny three women colloquies. The model on the cover is an absolute knockout and alone is worth the price of the book.
