When Vioxx, a highly prescribed anti-inflammatory Cox-2 inhibitor was pulled off the market in 2004 due to safety reasons, a terrible frenzy started. Doctors became hesitant to prescribe one of the two remaining Cox 2 inhibitors, and patients became desperate for pain relief. Many had relied on Vioxx for years, not knowing the damage they were doing to themselves. In April 2005, the second popular anti-inflammatory drug, Bextra was pulled, making patients even more leery of these miracle drugs.
Commonly prescribed for inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis and fibromyalgia, Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra offered pain relief with slight chance of stomach upset. With the removal of Vioxx due to increased risk of heart attack and stroke, patients began to search for other safer alternatives.
This book offers information in a concise form regarding natural alternatives. Starting simply with diet, changing from one high in oxalates and acidity that often are the cause of inflammation, to one that is alkaline.Getting adequate rest and exercise also play a major part in the inflammatory process.
Natural supplements are discussed in great detail that include recent scientific studies, safe use and dosage guidelines on such supplements as glucosamine and chondroitin, magnesium, ginger root and a myriad of others. The finishing touch is a starter four-day anti-inflammatory menu.
Only 120 pages, Natural Alternatives to Vioxx, Celebrex & Other Anti-Inflammatory Prescription Drugs is the spring-board to a safe and natural lifestyle without the dangers of prescription drugs.
