I wonder how many people will recognize the name Jesse Cutler?  He was a popstar who grew up on the streets of New York City and became a member of The Young Executives who performed at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.  This was a big turning point for the band.

However his childhood was very simple and he lived with his mother and the rest of his family in an old-fashioned railroad layout with four rooms which looked out onto the street. His parents were from a Sicilian background and being of both Italian and Spanish blood many a heated argument was always underway.

Cutler was a lonely child because he was without a mother he could confide in but when he entered kindergarten he was given an adorable little beagle puppy named Tiny. He recalls how he was excited to learn of his new companion but after three days of non-stop fun playing with his bundle of fur, he came home from school to find Tiny gone.

“Where’s Tiny?” he asked.

What his mother said made me sick to my stomach and I seriously question whether this woman knew how to be a decent mother.

After losing his beloved puppy to the countryside, Cutler cried endlessly. His mother had just taken his new friend away from him and then turned to the bottle to drown out her own problems.   Perhaps she should have looked closer to home.

Life afterwards was no better but soon Jesse established his own way in life and turned to music to help. There he formed the Young Executives and they shot the fame covering the hit song “Satisfaction”.  Along the way they met a host of celebrities including the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Andy Warhol, Stevie Wonder and Elizabeth Taylor to name but a few.

And while he mixed with all the stars, his handsome Italian genes made him irresistible to many girls. However writing songs was his main love and later he travelled all over the country in the hopes of meeting many inspirational people, which he did. Jesse also attended many a night club armed with his guitar and also formed a new band who introduced people to a different kind of music.

Jesse’s luck turned round however and many cruel blows came. However where there was Playboy there was money and publicity. Not sure how Jesse thought this would give him the kind of publicity he needed but it seems by posing in the centrefold and using “Automatic Man” his single, as a promotion, helped him in more ways then one.

Jesse learnt success isn’t always easy to achieve and sometimes you have to dig deeper to understand the value of fame.

Jesse also opened his talents to screenplay writing - managing to sell one to Tri-Star

Pictures. Yet there was heartbreak along the way when one of his favourite artists died.

This is the story of tragedy, heartbreak, humour and fame all of which Jesse Cutler experienced during his career.  A well written book which highlights the lows and highs of fame complete with many interesting photographs taken during Cutler’s career and life.

Compelling reading.

article The Price of Government: Getting the Results We Need in an Age of Permanent Fiscal Crisis by David Osborne and Peter Hutchinson
The following review was contributed by: ROGER E. HERMANThere is no question today that governments—at all levels—are in dire fiscal straits. Years of political maneuvering, wasteful spending, mismanagement, and an economic roller-coaster have taken their toll. While wonderful innovation has been seen in a number of government agencies at the federal, state, and local level, most have a very long way to go. The resistance to change must be overcome if we are to avoid widespread bankruptcy of...
