To be able to go back many, many years and record memories from all those long years ago would take a near photographic memory.  Apparently Olof Eriksen has just that and much more—he has the undeniable talent of a writer to add to his long list of God-given talents too numerous to mention.   His memoirs are so wonderfully well-written and drawn straight from the heart.  I truly feel honored to have been a part of his life through his writing.

Olof A. Eriksen was the innocent victim of a broken home.  After his mother left Norway for Sweden, taking two of his brothers with her; Olof and his younger brother Erik were forcibly taken from their loving father and placed in a boy’s home in Norway.  The boys’ father tried to no avail to get his boys out of the home and returned to him; but he fought a losing battle.  The horrors that the two young boys faced for over seven years while in the home were an unspeakable tragedy.  But to Olof’s credit, he used his harsh experiences to build a stronger future for himself in a harsh world.

Olof’s mechanical talents and ever-inquisitive mind stood him in good stead as he grew into a young man.  With every bend in his life’s road there appeared obstructions determined to destroy the young boy’s will to persevere.  But with each obstacle he created an opportunity for success.  Olof’s one dream in life was to make it to America.  Visions of money trees danced in his head with each passing year.

Finally, as a young man, his dream came true.  His brother, Kjell, sent for him and brought him across the ocean to join him in America.  Olof’s visions of the ‘land of milk and honey’ were soon to be replaced by the true face of America—a hard land filled with harsh realities.  It wasn’t long before he had decided that coming to America may have been one big mistake.

You will want to read Memoirs of an Immigrant to learn how this young man from Norway fares in the New World with nothing but a pocket full of dreams and a heart and head full of some amazing ideas.  Your own heart will fill with joy as you follow this young man through the detailed adventures of the true events that make him into the person he becomes.  A young man whose ever-busy hands and mind keep him on the straight journey that will make him the success that he envisions for himself.

A truly amazing account and wonderfully written true-life story.  One you won’t want to miss.
