Christopher Andersen is the critically acclaimed author of twenty-eight books that have been translated into more than twenty languages worldwide.
A former contributing editor of Time and senior editor of People, Andersen has also written hundreds of articles for a wide range of publications, including Life magazine, The New York Times and Vanity Fair. His latest book is “After Diana”.
With all these credentials behind him, Andersen has the uncanny ability with a great deal of compassion to tackle the biographies of Dana and Christopher Reeve. He has done extensive research into their lives and translated it into a crisp and understandable language.
Christopher d’Olier Reeves was the proverbial overnight success story. The star of Superman had an affair with Gae Exton with whom he had two children. He had already broken up with her when he met Dana Morosini, a warm, sweet and cheerful actress.
They were married and had a child, Will. Christopher was a daredevil and personally did all his stunts. Dana and himself were both avid horsemen. He had many brushes with death. But on Friday, May 26 on the third jump, his trusted horse stopped suddenly and he fell forward on his head and severed his spinal cord, making him an invalid from the neck down.
It is only with the love of his wife and children that he managed to survive and go on and become the advocate of stem cell research. We follow them in their heartbreaking struggle to live and make sense of their misfortune.
After a few years, he managed to move his little finger and even to sneeze on his own. But, in the end an infection took his life. Dana went on to perpetuate his philanthropies but she herself died a few months later, leaving Will a total orphan.
This is a poignant, uplifting story. If you loved Superman, you will adore Super Man and Woman, Christopher and Dana Reeve.
