Derek Adie Flower takes Egyptology by storm. Inquest on Imhotep is a fast pace mystery and murder story interwoven with some mysticism that is a pleasure to read. The action of the novel travels from Memphis, Egypt to Sienna in Italy.

The Englishman, as the first person narrator is called, rents out his house in Memphis to an Archeologist. Apparently, he had just discovered the tomb of Imhotep, next to the Step Pyramid. Christopher Grant was quick to inform a journalist of his fabulous trove but he is also snuffed out.

The Englishman living in Rome feels compelled to return to his house to investigate the murders. The author suckers us into the action by giving us one clue at a time as to who are the murderer or murderers. We go into the evil minds of a pseudo-religious group called the Sons of Seth that want to protect Imhotep’s tomb.

The Englishman and his fiancée Meri de Rosemont have to play a game of cat and mouse with this murderous sect. They know they are in danger. They are kidnapped and put into a trance making them believe they were actually Ancient Egyptian deities.

The description of the settings is very appealing. The author aptly describes the Esba (estate) surrounded by a cascade of Jasmin and Oleander among other vegetation.  The reader can almost taste the blowing sands of the vicious Khamseen.

Adie Flower shows off his extensive erudition in the recounting of Ancient Egyptian mythology even if he sometimes is redundant. The romantic element is not overdone- which is gratifying.

In short, Inquest on Imhotep is a fast paced thriller spanning two eras.
