ISBN:  978-0-9792629-4-4

Butterfly Wishes is a character driven, contemporary fiction about a family battling the loss of a loved one.  Fey Wright is an eleven-year-old girl who lost her mother and is trying to settle down in a new town from her father’s past, Odessa.  The story catches your attention from the very first paragraph.  You get the opportunity to find out Fey’s true feelings and how painful it is to deal with her loss.

Both characters, the daughter Fey and her father Campbell, struggle to open up to the citizens of the town.  Fey befriends a young boy around her age, Colin, who lives with his grandmother after losing his mother and father.  Fey’s father wants to give his daughter all the comforts of home but working as a writer, keeps him away from the household duties and away from the time he would like to spend with his daughter.  Since the town is so small, it doesn’t take long before word goes out that he requires a housekeeper of sorts.

The story takes off with both Campbell and Fey trying to form a relationship with the two people they meet in the town.  The author, LaDonna Paulette, describes the emotional conflict it takes two people to move forward in their lives without forgetting about the love they shared with a mother and a wife.

Butterfly Wishes went on to depict the lives of the Wrights as they form long lasting relationships toward healing their hearts.  In the story, there is an unpredictable incident that affects Fey’s life and propels her into an unexpected direction.

The author makes the story come alive and leaves you quite satisfied with the outcome of events.  You wonder about the meaning of the title, Butterfly Wishes, but it is soon made clear to the reader.

The setting is very vivid.  The details of the house, the wondrous tree and the surroundings of the lake make you feel as if you are lying around with the characters.  Fey and Colin were the most favorable characters to me because they seem to take on a life of their own.  The author captures the realism of their age and displays their pain through the bonds of friendship.

Butterfly Wishes is a book for all ages and it has a beautiful message to share.
