Author:  Jerry Bayne

Publisher: BookSurge Publishing

In The Gatherer, Jerry Bayne shows exceptional talent by interweaving science with science fiction.  His first ‘who-done-it’ makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck as he skillfully pulls you ever deeper into the world of the occult and malicious homicide.

Bayne makes the unbelievable believable as his main characters work feverishly against an unseen enemy and time itself.  Do they have a serial killer on their hands and if so, can they uncover his identity before he strikes again?  Two groups work unknowingly toward a common goal to solve a mystery that could destroy all of mankind.

Boston detective, Mike Sams, is called to the scene of a horrendous murder investigation and is mystified by the total lack of forensic evidence left at the site of the killing.  While across the ocean in Rome, Italy, another killing with the same mo as the Boston crime has taken place within minutes of the other.  Is there more than one killer—or is this a killer with supernatural abilities?  More questions remain unanswered when one victim is left alive and unharmed.  Why was this person spared while others were mutilated and murdered?

While Detective Sams heads up a tactical squad to solve the murders through forensic science, Father Frank Daniel and beautiful young Doctor Cary Blake, ancient language expert, strive to unravel the script engraved on a scroll that is not a composite of your average everyday material.

As the words on the scroll gradually reveal themselves to the experts, the meaning brings a dark terror of what might be headed their way to the hearts of clergy and everyone involved.

Fate draws Doctor Blake and Detective Sams together when the first murder victim is identified as a co-worker at the research center and good friend of Doctor Blake.  And as the Phoenix rises from the ashes, love grows from the embers of a case that seems to create insurmountable obstacles.  Both Sams and Blake find it hard to balance their private lives in the wake of destruction created by the unearthly force that seems bent on destroying, not only them, but any God-fearing persons that fall in its path.

The Gatherer is what nightmares are made of—if you think you’ve read them all, then I recommend you read this.  It may change your views of what is just scary and what is truly terrifying.  This one could just make you a believer.
