A Conversation with Thiênna Ho, Ph.D author of Unlocking The Mystery of Skin Color

Today, Norm Goldman, Publisher & Editor of Bookpleasures.com is pleased to have as our guest, Thiênna Ho, Ph.D author of Unlocking The Mystery of Skin Color.

Good day Thiênna and thanks for participating in our interview.

Norm:

Can you tell us something about yourself and your educational credentials and as a follow up, what motivated you to write Unlocking The Mystery of Skin Color?

Thiênna:

I am a proud Vietnamese American. I came to the US and settled in San Francisco when I was 12 years old. I was one of the boat people, asylum seeker, who fled communist Vietnam to search for freedom in another land. During my harrowing journey, pirates attacked our boat five times near the Gulf of Thailand. They brutally raped women and took everything, including food and water. They deliberately left us to die in the open sea. Fortunately, I was given a second chance to live and here I am.

Today, I hold five academic degrees including a BA in Economics; a BS in Microbiology; a Graduate Certificate in Genetic Engineering; an MA in Business Administration; and a Ph.D. in Scientific Nutrition. I also have performed significant additional studies in the fields of chemistry, biology, and molecular biology.

I am an entrepreneur since 1995. Today, I am the founder of Thienna, Inc., a science-based developer, manufacturer, and marketer of the Fairskin line of natural nutritional supplements, designed to help individuals obtain healthy, even-toned, lighter complexions through the use of nutrients instead of toxic chemicals, drugs, or steroids.

I am also the Guinness World Record holder for the most Sumo squats in one hour. Currently, I am known as the Queen of All Sumo Squats.

I was first inspired to write this book based on a personal experience. I was born with a brown complexion, which had many problems that caused me tremendous distress while growing up. If I developed a pimple or an abrasion on the skin on my face, I would develop large, raised, fibrous scars. In addition, the skin on my elbows, knees, feet, and ankles was embarrassingly rough, thick and dark ashen gray in color. My skin tone was so uneven that I counted at least seven distinct shades. I tried every skin product under the sun during my adult years to lighten and even out my total body complexion, but these products only darkened my skin color even more! I was so frustrated that I made it my mission to learn everything I could about the science of the human skin so that I could solve my own skin problems and eventually help others who had the same problems that I did.

Norm:

Have you written any articles for scientific journals pertaining to your findings that you elaborate upon in Unlocking The Mystery of Skin Color?

Thiênna:

No. I have not written any articles for scientific journals yet. I tried to submit my work but I was not recognised for my contributions to the scientific and medical community because I performed my scientific research independently at Thienna, Inc.  It is the same story with self-published books. Big publishers would not want to bother looking at your work even if it is a great book.

(Why I did independent research? There are two reasons why I did independent research:

1) Traditional Universities would not allow me to test my hypothesis on myself. I did not want to use animal models to test my hypothesis. Thus, I had the need to solve my own skin problems at the time and I was willing to use myself as a subject.

2) As an entrepreneur, I had no time to attend traditional school. It was not a viable option. Thus, online education for working professionals was a better option for me to carry out my independent research.)

Norm:

What kind of research did you do to write your book and how would our readers know that what you have written is up to par and is based on proven scientific findings?

Thiênna:

I applied the strict standard of scientific method to solve my skin problems (the human skin color) and my research is backed by over 500 reputable scientific sources. The advantage of applying the scientific method is that it is unprejudiced. My results are reproducible by anyone who wants to determine whether my results are true or false. Since 2005, many people worldwide have applied my method and they got the same results as I did.

If you want to know how I organised my research, here is how I did it. There were six steps I used to make my discovery: 1) Purpose, 2) Research, 3) Hypothesis, 4) Experiment, 5) Analysis, and 6) Conclusion.

The purpose of my research is to learn how to change skin color. In order to learn how to change skin color, I must find out at much as I can about the human skin color and how skin color is regulated at the molecular level in our body. Once the research is done, I came up with my hypothesis (educated guess) to predict the answer to why we have the skin color we have… such as if I eat a particular type of diet then my skin would be such and such. After the hypothesis, I set up my experiment using myself as a subject instead of using animal models to test my hypothesis. Testing here required me to follow a strict diet/lifestyle for a period of time from weeks, months, to years to see how diet/lifestyle affected my skin color. Once the testing was done, I analysed my skin color and its health to see if I obtained the results and wrote up my findings! (This is just a general idea of the steps I followed but they are much more complex during the process of discovery).

Norm:

How has the feedback been so far?

Thiênna:

So far, the feedback on the book has been positively amazing. I have finally answered people's concerns and questions about their skin colors and skin problems!

Norm:

What is your Natural Fairskin™ Method?

Thiênna:

My Natural Fairskin™ Method utilises diet and lifestyle alone without the use of toxic chemicals, drugs, or steroids to control the development of skin color. Readers will learn how to lighten their complexion, not only on the face, but all over their body. They will also be given tips on how to even out complexions, reduce visible age and sun spots, and eliminate hyper-pigmentation.

Sun damage is always a concern. I have tips for restoring sun-damaged, dull, and darkened skin to its youthful health and restoring ashen gray knees and elbows to their natural color. If a yellow hue is cause for concern, there are ways to noticeably reduce the cast and maybe even achieve a natural tan complexion! I want to emphasise that this book is not just for people who want lighter skin; it is for people who want clear, healthy skin.

Norm:

What challenges or obstacles did you encounter while writing your book? How did you overcome these challenges?

Thiênna:

There were no obstacles that I encountered while writing the book.  However, the one challenge I have face is that as an independent researcher, it is real difficult for me to get recognition anywhere.

Norm:

How will you be using the Internet to market your book?

Thiênna:

I will market my book from my own website, at amazon.com and through affiliate programs using Clickbank.com.

Norm:

How can readers find out more about you and your endeavors?

Thiênna:

They can visit my web site at www.thienna.com and learn more about me and what I do.

Norm:

Are you working on any books/projects that you would like to share with us? (We would love to hear all about them!)

Thiênna:

Yes. I am always working on something. I am currently working on my Fairskin Cook Book and preparing for another Guinness World Record this year!

Norm:

Is there anything else you wish to add that we have not covered?

Thiênna:

I want to take this opportunity to personally thank all the people out there for supporting me, my research and for using my method. I am forever grateful. I could not have done it without their feedback. Currently, I am not being recognised for my significant contributions to the scientific and medical community. Hopefully, with the great interest in the general public about my findings and on how they help change people's lives, the scientific and medical community might take a look at my work. Thank you Norm for the interview and for providing a forum for independent publishers like me to have their voices heard. I know I took the most challenging and unconventional route to do my job and I must say I love it and would not change anything if I had to do it all over again.

Norm:

Thanks once again and good luck with all of your future endeavors.
