A Glass Act is, as Ron Morgan puts it, “an attempt to make the joy of flower arranging accessible to everyone.” To me, the arrangements shown in this book more than achieves this goal.

Thought has gone into every aspect of this book and shows from the compositing of the cover, to the color coded chapters to the lusciously vibrant colors of the photos themselves.

Each chapter is dedicated to a color from the floral palate [green, pink, brown, red, white, burgundy, orange, purple and yellow] that is simplistic in its elements, yet elaborate in finished results but all the same something any of us could create with a trip to a florist and perusing each of our collection of glass odds and ends.

None of the vessels that were used are elaborate in any shape of the word. Very simple pieces of clear glass that do not compete with the beauty of Mother Nature. The curves and color and the relationship each flower, fruit or grass used has with each other is the real work of art here. I think we sometimes get more enthralled with the vessel that we forget what’s inside of it is what’s most important and I find this book to be a good reality check in the matter.

I appreciate that there are also captions in the back to let me know what was used in each arrangement along with tips to get the longest life out of my arrangements. It makes perfect sense, but who would have though that the easiest way to add water to floral arrangements is use a turkey baster.

This book is more than just a coffee table book; it’s a great source of reference and inspiration for all future events that I have a part of that have the option of floral arrangements.
